SELF

2024.3

Materials: Metal

Size: 60*60*10 inches

The piece itself is a Chinese character, symbolizing the self. Using a character as part of the self-portrait reflects my existential contemplations: what does the self truly entail? I exist as a concept by the wall, yet it is not the real me; it's merely a conceptualization of the self. The two black holes on the wall represent my selfish side, but the blackness around the edges of the holes also signifies self-imposed limitations. I am a complex and contradictory individual.
